Resende
This city is located 160 km from Rio de Janeiro with access through highway
BR-116 (Dutra), which connects Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo.
Resende is one of the most beautiful touristic cities in the Agulhas Negras
Region, within the south of the State of Rio.
The historic relevance of this city is associated with coffee and mining periods
during the 18th and 19th centuries. Enclaved in the Serra da Mantiqueira
(Mantiqueira Mountains), it offers visitors, in addition to a rich natural heritage,
a precious cultural and architectural collection listed by the Institute for
National Artistic and Historical Heritage (IPHAN): all this collection can be
found in the Fazenda do Castelo (Castelo Ranch), which preserves Portuguese
tiles and marble, in the Fundação Casa da Cultura Macedo Miranda (Macedo
Miranda House of Culture Foundation), in the Igreja Matriz (Mother Church) or
in the Palacete (small Palace) that housed Princess Isabel and the Count of Eu
during their stay in the city.
