Araruama

This beautiful city has an 11 km coast with heavenly beaches and seashore lagoons, with Lagoa de Araruama (Araruama Lagoon) and Lagoa de Jaturnaíba (Juturnaíba Lagoon) being the main attractions. This latter is the only freshwater lagoon in the region and on its margins it shelters the Reserva Florestal de Poço das Antas (Tapir Pit Forest Reserve), habitat of the golden lion tamarin, one of the most endangered species of Brazil.
