Costa Verde
The Costa Verde displays one of the most pretty and exotic scenarios of the
Brazilian coast, where the Serra do Mar (Sea Mountain Range) meets the
Atlantic and both unite in a unique way. Formed by the cities of Angra dos Reis,
Paraty, Mangaratiba, Itaguaí and Rio Claro, it was highlighted during Brazilian
colonization through the constant presence of French and English ships. For
sheltering one of the first lands colonized in Brazil, it is possible to find forgotten
roads and highways around there, which in a pioneering way have advanced
towards the interior of the country. The presence of pirates, adventurers,
noblemen and commoners has designed the material and immaterial heritage
of the region’s inhabitants.
Its landscape, with more than two thousand beaches and infinite number of
islands, is protected by the Restinga de Marambaia (restinga is a distinct type
of forest in Brazil) and by immense natural breakwaters covered by the Atlantic
Forest. In several shades of green, the waters are ideal for practicing any type
of water sport.
It has a large number of semi-desert beaches; some with nuances of unique
colors, which can only be accessed by the sea. The Baía da Ilha Grande (Big
Island Bay) is considered the best and most beautiful part of the Brazilian coast
to navigate. Within the region, we can find from international standard resorts
and ecological havens to historic cities like Paraty, one of the most visited
tourist destinations in Brazil.
