Teresópolis
Cidade de Teresa (Teresa’s City) – is a tribute to Teresa Cristina (Therese Christine
of the Two Sicilies), the wife of D. Pedro II (Peter II of Brazil). The imperial
family was deeply captivated by the natural beauties and climate of this beautiful
mountain range region, where they used to rest during frequent visits and
holiday time.
It is worth climbing the way up to Teresópolis, the highest city in the State of
Rio de Janeiro. With an excellent climate, a broad hospitality industry, diverse
cuisine and magnificent nature, the city has every aspect to make your stay
unforgettable.
For nature lovers, the visit to Serra dos Órgãos National Park is something not
to be missed. With an area of more than 20,000 hectares, the nature reserve
offers several options for trails and ecological tours. Another attraction that
is worth visiting is Fonte Judith (Judith Fountain), a colonial style architecture work inaugurated in 1954. Covered in Portuguese tiles, the fountain has five
water outlets in the shape of Fauns, pouring medicinal waters.
Famous for hosting the 5 time world champion football team, Granja Comary
is also open to the public. Its 150,000 m2 area is divided into five fields, athlete
assistance infrastructure and a modern training center.
Teresópolis is situated at the top of Serra dos Órgãos and that is where the
main entrance to the National Park is, surrounded by beautiful landscapes
such as rivers and waterfalls, and a rich flora and fauna.
