Volta Redonda
Volta Redonda is known as Cidade do Aço (Steel City). Within the city, important
buildings can be visited, such as the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (National
Steel Company) and the Memorial Getúlio Vargas (Getúlio Vargas Memorial),
which has a permanent exhibition of the ex-president’s sculptures, illustrative
panels and personal objects. The Zoológico Municipal (City Zoo), which has one
of the most developed biological research centers in the country, has a lake,
paddle boats, a range of games and the Bertioga locomotive, built in 1927.
